Short version: Unlost saves your typed text on your device only. Nothing is transmitted anywhere. No accounts, no servers, no analytics.

What Unlost does

Unlost is a Chrome extension that automatically saves text you type into web forms, textareas, and rich-text editors. When a page reloads, times out, or crashes, you can restore that text from the extension popup — directly back into the original field.

Where your data goes

Saved text is stored in chrome.storage.local — a storage area that exists entirely within your own Chrome profile, on your own device. It is never synced, uploaded, or transmitted anywhere.

There is no backend server for this extension. None exists, because none is needed. The developer has no access to, and cannot view, any text saved by Unlost.

This is verifiable: the extension's source code contains zero network requests of any kind.

What Unlost will never save

Password fields (type="password")
Payment fields — card numbers, CVV, IBAN, routing numbers
Authentication fields — PINs, one-time codes, security questions
Any field whose autocomplete attribute signals sensitive financial or identity data

These exclusions are enforced in code, checked before any text is saved — not just stated in policy.

Retention

Saved entries are automatically deleted after 7 days. A cleanup routine runs roughly every 12 hours. You can also clear all saved data for any individual site instantly using the "Clear this site" button in the popup.

Permissions and why they're needed

storage — to save and retrieve typed text locally on your device.
alarms — to schedule the periodic cleanup of expired entries. Required because Manifest V3 service workers cannot run persistent background timers.
activeTab — to identify the current site so the popup shows relevant saves, and to send restore commands to the active page.
Host permission (all URLs) — the content script needs to run on any site for the extension to be useful on any site. It only reads field values you've typed and writes them to local storage; it makes no outbound network requests of any kind.

Third parties

Unlost does not share, sell, transfer, or disclose any data to any third party, for any purpose. There is no analytics SDK, no crash reporting, no advertising integration, and no remote configuration service of any kind.

Children's privacy

Unlost is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from anyone.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in any material way, the effective date above will be updated. We will never introduce data collection or transmission without disclosing it here first.
